HEAD’S NOVAK DJOKOVIC WINS FRENCH OPEN AND COMPLETES HIS CAREER GRAND SLAM

Paris/France, June 5th 2016

What a final. What a champion! HEAD Racquet Hero Novak Djokovic has further solidified his spot among the all-time elite of tennis after completing his Career Grand Slam through a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 defeat of fellow HEAD ace Andy Murray to win his first title at the French Open.

Djokovic, who endorses the HEAD Graphene XT Speed, became the first male player since Rod Laver more than four decades ago and Donald Budge (1938) to win all four Grand Slam tournament titles in a row. HEAD owner and CEO Johan Eliasch honored the great achievement of Novak Djokovic with a special present, a golden racquet inscribed with all the Grand Slam tournament victories.

The Serbian beat Murray as the HEAD pair faced off for the seventh time for a Grand Slam trophy. They have now played three times in 2016, with Djokovic winning the Madrid and Paris finals while Murray triumphed on clay in the Rome Masters last month. "This is truly a special moment for me, maybe the biggest emotion of my career," said the overjoyed winner as the sun broke through clouds which have covered Paris the last days. “I want to thank my team, my family, my loves to make it able to happen!”

Murray, who recommends the HEAD Graphene XT Radical, has lifted his clay game remarkably over the last two seasons, winning his first-ever pair of trophies on the surface in 2015 and taking his progress even further in 2016. The world No. 2 behind his HEAD stablemate was the first British man to reach the French Open final since Bunny Austin in 1937 and the tenth in the post-1968 open era to contest the finals at all four Slams. He comments: “To win all four Grand Slam Tournaments in a row is such an amazing achievement, so congratulation to Novak. Some things are so rare to happen. It has not happened for an extremely long time and it will take a long time for it to happen again.”
